I will be honest, I struggled with creating this article. Because it isn't quite a “review” like I had originally intended, but more of a discussion. I'm sure some of you might remember this other article from a year ago: (If not, now may be a good time to read it! (For my algorithm’s sake at the very least).
No, this one is a little different for sure. Let us start. Have you ever wanted to create? Have you ever wanted to fully embrace a project and throw all caution to the wind? I'm sure most of us have, to some capacity. But while most of us idly dream, there are those of us who are actually putting our noses to the grindstone. Pumping out the iron, so to speak. Danny is not much of a stranger to hard work, creation, and progress.
He has been on this journey for quite some time and it is so inspiring to see how far he has come. He has put a lot of love and soul into all of this which is the reason that I'm writing here today - ALONE, the upcoming song which is a re-release of a song that already exists on the INSOMNIA album (I will include more links at the end.) ALONE is debuting with an incredible-looking video directed by Louie Cohen owner of Epidemic Media, with an incredible dystopian set designed by Jakob Owens. You can pre-save the video and song here: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/dannysilvertone/alone - it has options for both Spotify and YouTube.
Watching the trailer for ALONE is what inspired me to ask Danny if he wanted me to write this piece. Seeing his conviction for this project was enough for me to take an initiative and work on my own project, hence this post. Danny had approached me first about ALONE, I was sitting at my boring ass night job when he had hit me up, he had said there was a lot he was doing for this project, and having witnessed the magic before I wanted to help. Looking for people to pre-save the re-release was his mission that night and for literally .2 seconds it was mine because pre-saving a song for a friend is incredibly easy. He said I may enjoy the message that it has in it.
Unfortunately, it wasn't long after his announcement I had my own. My cushy job to pay my bills pretty much fell out from under me. For almost a year (the year I've been at the job itself) I have had projects I've been sitting on. Dreams. Visions. Goals. The things that drive me even when I'm stuck inside my mental box. Knowing Danny and others are on similar paths, similar journeys'... it makes mine easier to dive right into. If he can throw caution to the wind and create a beautiful video, ask friends to support him, and follow his vision I see no reason I can't do the same for myself.
My goals are no different than his, I wanna do what I love. From the upcoming video and every song on his debut album INSOMNIA (fun fact, it is actually recognized by PLB SYNC, an independent music sync licensing agency based in Los Angeles, representing both well-known and exciting new artists for sync placements in all media.) to the photos he and his connections have come up with, he is most certainly doing what he loves. It is people with the ambition that Danny has that fuel me, they teach me things about my own drive and passion. As I said, if it wasn't for Danny, I wouldn't be writing this right now.
One of my favorite things to do as a creator is to involve other creators. We are literally on the same planet, I see no reason why anyone should go unnoticed. We all learn from the experiences of others in some way or another. I introduced my partner to Danny Silvertone in hopes that he would get Danny on his podcast at Things Beyond Sound. And he did, which you can see the episode here:
I'd like to think that the idea of collaboration helps everyone in some way. Be it podcasting, writing, sharing, liking, subscribing, or whatever other small action we can take to show others “hey, I'm here, I see you.” Having that power is kind of cool in a way. Because the things that matter the most to us, end up mattering the most to other people too. Danny is right, even for not having heard the new version yet or even seeing the full video I do appreciate the message. A line that strikes me from the current version of the song ALONE is “... in fewer words I'll be good on my own/ I'll be all alone/ Cause that's where I was when you met me...”
Maybe you guessed that ALONE is about a relationship (if you're listening to the album as you read that is cool, I'm listening as I write) and you'd be right. Being “dead and gone” doesn't mean defeat... and being alone isn't as bad as we imagine. ALONE isn't meant to be a tragedy. It's meant to be empowering. It is as empowering as the journey we are all on. Just as empowering as the journey Danny was on when he wrote it, re-released it, and marketed it.
I hope that you'll watch the video with me on the 24th, and I hope that you'll stay tuned for the future podcast with Danny Silvertone and Things Beyond Sound. Our journey isn't ever really done and I look forward to what this talented soul has to bring to the world.
